Thoughts 5 Star Wresting 1st Show on Freesports UK
5 Star Wrestling made their UK TV Debut on Freesports UK on Thursday 01 Feb 2018.
5 Star Wrestling are going to produce a 3 hour weekly TV show showcasing a mixture of UK and overseas wrestling talent.
5 Star wrestling first Show came to us from the Echo Arena in Liverpool.
I was looking forward to seeing what 5 Star Wrestling were going to bring to the table as I hadn't seen then before but had signed many wrestlers I had seen before including Tremendous UK talent Big Grizzly, Eddie Ryan, Adam Maxted, Dave Mastiff and Zack Gibson. In addition I was looking forward to seeing Jack Swagger, John Morrison and RVD and how they would to utilised.
I think its a massive positive that British Wrestling is back on Free TV for Everyone to see this hasn't happened for a very long time,I want British Wrestling to Succeed and thrive, 5 Star need to be given time.
The First Match was For Tap or Snap Championship I like the Idea behind the title that it has be submission only but my own personal opinion is would be better defended in a 1 on 1 match.

Overall Match Thoughts
I thought the actual matches themselves were great, 2 matches really stand out for me Eddie Ryan vs Jake Hager and Grizzly and Mastiff vs El Ligero and Jody Fleisch.
Eddie Ryan and Jake Hager had a great competitive match and really helped establish Eddie Ryan to the 5 Star audience, who Eddie is and what he is all about, it showed his Fighting Spirit and will to fight, although Jake cheated to win and now goes on to face John Morrison, Eddie Ryan may not be finished with Jake yet.
My Favourite match of the night was 'The Phoenix' Jody
Fleisch and El Ligero vs Big Grizzly and Dave Mastiff. This was a great tag team match which told a story of Grizzly and Mastiff dominating with their size and Ligero and Fleisch using their ability, quickness and raw speed to outwit Grizzly and Mastiff.
Grizzly and Mastiff used a lot of quick tags in and out and also used some questionable tactics behind the referee back and cut off Fleisch from his partner for a long time in this match, but Ligero when he got tagged in was eventually able to Fllying DDT mastiff and Fleisch hit a phoenix DDT for the win - Well worth watching back this match top stuff.
Production/Presentation Thoughts
This was 5 Star Wrestling first ever live show on Freesports and going live for the first time for any company can present a lot of challenges. I saw a lot of very vocal feedback on Twitter from Fans complaining that Crowd wasn't loud enough, Ring ropes too loose, Commentators wouldn't stop talking, missed cues etc
Personally my biggest bug bear with commentators not calling the action in the ring, We had them talking about Zack Gibson match in the main event and Gibson even had to say lets focus on the in ring action of RVD and Morrison. Plus in one of the matches was talking about gym membership for Greg Lambert, apart from that I was ok.
While there were production elements which I'm sure 5 Star Would like to be better this is something that they can improve on as they go forward, as you learn you can get better and improve and I'm sure in time that 5 Star will get sharper on those elements, its a learning process what I would say to fans is give it time.
What I thought was Great
- Matches are given time to tell a story, Great in ring action
- Tremendous Roster full of Talent
- Lots of Potential for Growth and expansion, 3 Hour weekly TV show.
What I think are areas for Improvement
- Make Sure Commentators Focus on action in the ring
- Get Bespoke Entrance Music and Entrance Videos for all talent
- Better transition between Matches, Backstage, in ring segments
Thanks for Reading
