Meeting All Elite Wrestling AEW star Hikaru Shida in 2016

Meeting All Elite Wrestling  AEW star Hikaru Shida in 2016

Watching All Elite Wrestling Double Or Nothing recently made me realise that I had a met a wrestler on that show many years ago that now in 2019 is getting ready to take the world by storm that wrestler a Japanese joshi wrestler Hikaru Shida.

Reading up and in preparation for this blog I did some research on Hikaru Shida and I found out some interesting things about her and her journey in pro wrestling here's a quick summary for you

  • Hikaru Shida has trained in Judo and Kendo

  • Hikaru Shida was trained by Emi Sakura

  • Hikaru Shida first match was against Haruna Akagi on 20th July 2008 in Japanese ice ribbon promotion

  • Hikaru Shida has previously appeared in a number of TV shows,Films and music videos in Japan

  • Hikaru Shida has been a multi time champion in a number of promotions across the world.

Me and Hikaru Shida in 2016
So when did I meet Hikaru Shida? Let me take you back to 2016 specifically January 2016 in Tauton,Somerset at Wellsprings leisure centre PWP wrestling show taking place and fresh from kicking out AJ styles from Bullet Club at new Japan New Years dash Kenny Omega is walking into the building and he is accompanied by a young lady Hikaru Shida.

I had never seen Hikaru before and this show was special for me as it was the first show I was backstage and filming promos with some of the talent after their matches that night, so for most of the show that evening I was behind the curtain.

A Picture of Hikaru Shida i took in 2016 (Sorry for the Blurry Image!)
When the first match started I was backstage watching the show through a curtain and next to me walks Hikaru Shida and she sits down and starts watching the show, she is watching all the matches intently and she was looking at the crowd too and taking it all in, I always remembered that.

Nadia Sapphire and Me in 2016
Hikaru Shida had a match herself coming up that night vs Welsh women's wrestler Nadia Sapphire. Nadia is well known in the south west wrestling scene she has this brilliant self obsessed bitchy character (but awesome person in real life) and having not seen Hikaru Shida wrestle before I was looking forward too it.

Here is a short 2 min highlight from their match at that show

Hikaru was the first Japanese female wrestler I had seen live and she showed so much potential she was fast, had so much agility and was so fluid,I had my eyes opened back in 2016 about how good Japanese women's wrestling could be and given the chance what they could be able to achieve.

On a complete side note......

Me and Kenny Oemga from Taunton 2016
One of the coolest things I've ever seen happened involving Hikaru Shida, I was talking to Kenny Omega and she came up to us and Kenny said "excuse me a moment" and Kenny went from Fluid English straight into talking to Hikaru Shida in fluid Japanese, I was totally in awe of that & that a skill i wish i had.

Back to the blog.........

I was surprised that New Japan as they expanded and got more traction outside of Japan and got bigger didn't include Hikaru Shida and others like Emi Sakura in their shows and have Women's matches as the ladies are incredible athletes and just so different from what was on the scene.

Emi Sakura
Kenny Omega however explained in a recent interview that New Japan didn't want to have Female wrestlers on their shows because they felt it was part of their tradition not to have women on the show as they never had before. I believe Kenny Omega proposed bringing these Japanese ladies wrestlers to New Japan but despite all his efforts it never happened, New japan definitely missed out.

Hikaru Shida now gets her opportunity to wrestle in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) alongside a whole host of Japanese female wrestlers and I think after what we all saw in 6 person tag match that their style of wrestling is going to fit in perfectly and be a huge highlight of the shows and I believe Hikaru Shida has the ability to become the brightest star in the whole division in 2019.

Here's what WWE could do This I feel is the ideal opportunity fo

Strike Wrestling Results Bournemouth May 20th 2018   Hello Wrestling fans! Welcome to the first ever Strike Wrestling Results blog!  I went to Bournemouth and took x2 trains and a bus to get there and it was well worth the effort. Before I get to the wrestling a bit about Bournemouth Bournemouth is a beautiful town it was a sunny hot day. I managed to go to the beach and see the pier and get a great view from Bournemouth on top of the cliffs, where there were also many of great restaurants and places to eat. Check out my on the road video on Strike Wrestling by clicking the video below! This was my first show at Strike Wrestling and Strike is an over 18’s show so I was expecting a different vibe, feel and presentation to family orientated wrestling that I have attended in the past. Strike wrestling is high paced, hard hitting, fast action but with a huge streak of entertainment, fun and having a great time.   From where I was

WWE TV in UK 2024 Will it Stay on TNT Sports, Move Back to Sky or Somewhere new?

In 2020 WWE signed a multi year deal with TNT Sports (BT Sport at the time) to air WWE programming WWE Raw, WWE Smackdown and WWE NXT.  Channel 5 also airs highlights of WWE RAW and WWE Smackdown but on a week delay - Channel 5 is a free to air channel here in the UK.  Last week I received an email as a WWE Network subscriber here in the UK to inform me that I could now watch WWE NXT every week on WWE Network from 3rd Jan 2024. So this email got me thinking - is the WWE/TNT Sports UK TV deal coming up soon? it looks possible. Looking at the original story of the deal being made in 2020 multiple sources claim that it is a "multi year deal" See below  ( https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/a28113145/wwe-smackdown-raw-watch-uk-tv-bt-sport/)     I could not find how many specific years that was., However I thought i'd give my opinion on where WWE Raw and WWE Smackdown could end up in 2024, The rights fee's obviously are alot less than there are in USA due to WWE Raw and Sma
