WWE along with USA network put NXT on USA Network on Wednesday nights to oppose AEW on TNT Network.
WWE made a statement and as from 30 March 2021 NXT will now to on Tuesday nights leaving AEW unopposed and the only wrestling show to watch on Wednesdays.
AEW are now on their own and with NXT on Tuesday all the focus will be on them. They have their own night and will have the whole audience. So what challenges lay ahead for AEW?
AEW need to be able to not only be able to excite the audience they have but also progress and be able to gain even more fans and people watching their product.
Now more than ever AEW storylines, how they present themselves is going to be under the microscope even more.
For me this is where the experienced wrestlers come in, so many people have questioned why AEW signed established stars. For me I think its been great and now in this situation is even more necessary and here's why.
Look at for Example Chris Jericho, Paul Wight, Christian, Sting and Taz, all have been wrestling for over 20 years, All have valuable experience working on Live TV every single week and can pass that experience on to the newer younger wrestlers they are working with and help elevate that generation.
You can build around the solid foundation of AEW Dynamite around Chris Jericho, Paul Wight, Christian, Sting and Taz all of which have been featured frequently on AEW, (Taz being in a non wrestling role but talking on the mic and being comfortable doing it).
Its important for AEW to capitalise and push forward during this time, their future and what they want AEW to be and be viewed is more important than ever, those New Stars need to step up even more and become Superstars in their own right and help themselves become more popular which in turn should help AEW become more popular too.
In addition the growth potential for AEW Dynamite could also be huge in other areas of the company. For Example AEW YouTube channel at time of this writing as 2.09 Million Subscribers , currently WWE has over 75 Million subscribers.
This could be a massive growth area for AEW and another important step for them. If people see the clips from AEW Dynamite on Youtube they may well then check out the full show itself, engage in their content and gain an interest in what they are doing hence increasing TV ratings and increased awareness in their product.
The more people that see your product and want to engage with it hopefully the more people will subscribe and the more views you have on your videos which they means more advertising money and a new revenue stream for AEW in the long term.
Growing the audience on TV and supplementing it with a YouTube audience is going to be key, within the next year AEW will know if they are on the right track and whether this approach will help them grow in the new phase they are now going into.
Now its all in AEW hands
