TNA British bootcamp 2 - Politics of Entertainment
Everything written below is my opinion as a wrestling fan I'm not a wrestling expert nor to I proclaim to be one just my perspective and my thoughts, with that said enjoy the blog!!! :)
From all of this talent the 3 judges picked their final 6. Don’t get me wrong this was a very hard decision all the talent on this show did amazingly well, all had great matches and all put in 100% effort.
The Judges decided that your final 6 would be
Mark Andrews
Noam Dar
Dave Mastiff
Rampage Brown
Grado
Kay Lee Ray
Now this isn’t a bad list at all and a worthy bunch of finalists except one….Grado. Now im not hating on Gardo as a human being or as a wrestler I don’t know him as either so its unfair for me to judge him on that basis but its what he represents in this competition that annoys me more than anything.
All can base my opinion on is what has been presented to me so far on Bootcamp 2.
This is my opinion on what I like to call “The Grado Situation”
Grado messed up in Glasgow for his Tryout, he arrived late and got kicked out and lost his opportunity. Al Snow did the correct thing by kicking him out and in any other walk of life he would not of been given a 2nd chance. However Grado turns up in Manchester and then again in London Gail Kim feels sorry for him and convinces Al Snow to let him back in. (I haven’t forgiven Al for that) because Al told Grado when he turned up late “you disrespected me, this business and all those people in that ring you don’t deserve another chance Get out” So what changed? Nothing.
Al let him have his mind changed by other Judges, Id wish he stuck to his guns.
Al and the other 3 judges then put Grado through to the UK finals and put him through on the fact that “the crowd loved him” he now is going to America with 5 others for a TNA Contract.
So Grado is being rewarded for messing up, plain and simple. It’s a shame and quite frankly really sad that in this day and age and in our society in general we are rewarding people that make mistakes and they get the opportunities over people that work hard everyday, do what is asked of them and deliver on a daily basis. Its Wrestling politics and a lot of those hard working UK finalists were victims of Wrestling politics. Also its entertainment I understand that, sometimes the people that are good are scarified for the person the director, Company or organization feel can benefit them the most.
It happens in all forms of work and businesses, however for guys that I have seen live this year like for example Joel Redmond (at Pro Wrestling Pride) and Martin Stone (at Superclash 2) who put 110% in no questions asked and give so much on themselves for an opportunity and those guys get overlooked for someone who didn’t take his opportunity seriously and didn’t have the professionalism to turn up on time and to do what was required. Even Jeremy Borash on commentary mentioned that Redmond car had broken down on the way to the finals, so he jumped on a train and then a bus to make it to the show. Redmond showed commitment and passion that in my eyes Grado didn't. For me it takes the credibility of British Bootcamp 2 away, there is no doubt that Credibility has been lost and damaged that’s a huge shame for a show that has had so much promise and has been so entertaining over the past few weeks.
My feeling is due to the way the show is presented that Grado will ironically be your eventual winner which proves a sad point, be on the right side of the politics, Make mistakes, don’t turn up on time & you’ll get it all……..
