Why NJPW G1 2017 was all about Kenny Omega

Why NJPW G1 2017 was all about Kenny Omega

Wrestling to me as a fan as I have grown older is all about the emotional connection. The emotional connection to a match, moment, Wrestler or falling in love with the moment that I am watching.

I get that feeling more and more when I'm watching Kenny Omega matches.

Kenny body of work over this entire G1 tournament has been nothing short of sensational. Kenny Omega has managed to have a match to attract every type of fan and has had matches full of different emotions and brought them out of the fans in different ways

Kenny Omega throughout this 2017 G1 has had ultimate classic matches, a fantastic comedy match, he has shown his technical skills, high flying Skills, Storytelling Skills and his mind for professional wrestling plus his excellent facial expressions whether it be in humour or conveying pain or happiness.

This G1 Tournament has shown the breath as a performer Kenny Omega has and in a short amount of time shown that his abilities are not to be surpassed.

Kenny Omega G1 Matches

Kenny Omega Defeats Suzuki

Hard Hitting Wrestling to Kick off Omega G1

Kenny started off his G1 vs Mirou Suzuki - Suzuki the leader of Suzuki and a certified mad man, Kenny had a look of apprehension before the match and rightful so this wouldn't be the match I would want to have at the start of a gruelling tournament but Omega and Suzuki here told a great story of Omega not wanting to make eye contact with Suzuki, Omega actually looking afraid of him but as the match went on Omega through his actions showed that he growed in confidence and there were times both men were hitting each other super hard in some of the hardest hitting action of the tournament with Omega coming out the winner.

Kenny Omega Defeats Tama Tonga

Bullet Club vs Bullet Club

A lot of bad feeling before this match Tama Tonga had been very vocal on Twitter and vocal against Omega and The Elite and felt that Omega was putting himself and Elite ahead of Bullet Club. I loved Tama Tonga in this we got to see a different side of him and working against Kenny Omega the leader of the group isn't always something we get to see.
Tama and Kenny had an aggressive match for two meant that were part of the same group Tonga didn't hold back, and Omega was able to come away with the win with all members of Bullet Club who were in the building at the time coming together to "too Sweet" each other.

This match was smartly put together with the dynamic and Bullet Club vs Bullet Club it gave a great reason for the match and the animosity really helped add to this match also.

Kenny Omega Defeats Yano – Via Countout

One of the matches of the year :)

This match caused a lot of conversary on the Internet and in the wrestling world  Kenny Omega the man that has more Match of the Year candidates than anyone in 2017 has a comedy match!
Kenny omega comes from a background of DDT Wrestling (some the the most out there crazy wacky cool wrestling you'll ever see) Yano is a comedy character and Kenny said in Pre G1 Interviews he would be having his comedy match.
I really feel that fans should go out of their way to watch this match, from Powder in the DVD case of trying each other up with tape i thought it was tremendous, it was something unique, funny and made me laugh.

Omega and Yano keep pulling each other hair too and red shoes referee jumps off the 2nd rope to break them up!

We all watch wrestling to be entertained and this match entertained me and put a smile on my face - isn't that what we watch wrestling for?
There is nothing controversial here just all out fun

Kenny Omega loses to Michael Elgin

Elgin hands Omega his first defeat

In his first loss in g1 G127 Kenny Omega was defeated again by Michael Elgin.

Elgin has had Omega number before and was able to overcome him again this time in another tremendous wrestling match. Omega went from his Comedy match that we talked about previously to a complete 180 in this match to a competitive, strong match with Omega. Elgin and Omega have so much chemistry together and again I believe since their series of Matches in NJPW that this (alongside the ladder match) is one of the best.

Kenny Omega Defeats Kojima

Omega Confidently disposes of a legend

Kenny Omega vs Kojima was Kenny Omega looking so confident within himself from his entrance to his wrestling int he ring, the only thing that went wrong in this match was that it spelt the end for the famous house show Kenny Omega Tights!

Kenny Omega facial expressions here were priceless especially his line "he was going to dive?" Omega went after Tezan as well as Kojima warding off Tezan whenever he got close to the action.

Kenny Omega Defeats EVIL

Wrestling and reality blended together perfectly

One of my favourite matches of the tournament I will admit that I am an Evil fan also and think he has a brilliant gimmick and has been on the rise in 2017 and becoming a pivotal member of LIJ.
Omega and Evil had a previous G1 match in 2016 but this match in 2017 far surpassed it.

Fans think that towards the end of the match that Evil was knocked out, from the man himself and also Omega, Evil wasn't knocked out. Evil Sold that knee from Omega so well, that is to EVIL credit and he made fans Believe, which is what pro wrestling is all about.

I hope to see Kenny Omega and Evil match up again at some point in the future they have tremendous in ring chemistry and Delivering a match like they did at this point in the tournament with Kenny Omega flying through a table too, makes this a must see match.

Kenny Omega loses to Juice Robinson

The biggest shock of the G1 Tournament, Making Juice Robinson

In a massive shock in a match that I don't think anyone saw coming Kenny Omega lost to Juice Robinson. Juice has been a star on the rise in New Japan pro wrestling the fans love his ability and charisma. This was perfect this match has given Juice Robinson such a boost he was on the rise, but this match really helped him I believe in perception of a lot of fans and really added to the unpredictability of G1. Kenny Omega lost here but he helped make Juice Robinson and add more to the juice Robinson character. To be able to do that in a middle of a tournament is a very cool thing.

Kenny Omega Defeats Sanada

Omega pulls Great Match from Sanada.......by any means

In all honestly I have to say that Kenny Omega pulled a good match out of Sanada here. Kenny took Sanada and tried to bring him to another level. Sanada has not and is not fulfilling the potential that he has, Kenny has said it on promos he has been a bit disappointing and Sanada needs to show more.

Kenny showed his ability to have a good match not matter what the circumstances are. Many of you will think I am being harsh with what I have said but I felt the Omega/Yano match generated so much emotion, fun and great wrestling and in this it felt like Omega had to try very hard to get a match that he needed from it.

Kenny Omega defeats Okada

We will not see better matches than these in my lifetime

Matches between Omega and Okada mean so much to me. The 1st Match of their series at Wredstlekingdom 11 I was live in the Toyko Dome in Toyko, Japan in complete disbelief at the aweosmeness I was seeing.

Match two was the only match that I had ever seen which ended as a draw that I had so much of an emotional investment in I was so drained watching this match I really thought it was omega time.

However match 3 in the series was Omega time he started the match so quickly and was very strategic Okada time was up in this match, it was true epic - ness. I was at the first match live so not matter what anyone says nothing can displace it as my favourite match but this third match comes so close as my favourite in the series, Omega/Okada told so much of a story yet again.

Kenny Omega loses to Naito in G1 Final

Image result for kenny omega vs naito g1

To me this match in 2016 G1 stole the tournament it was a classic and match of the year and this year match in the final was another on that level.

Kenny Omega is the best Any match performer in any company int he world right now, and I have to give credit to Naito in this match too, both Men have been wrestling hard non stop for weeks in events all over Japan and for them to come up with this match when both must be feeling so tired and worn out as a credit to them as wrestlers, performer and human beings.

There is a moment in this match where Naito goes to Piledrive Omega on a table but catches his head on the rails in one of the scariest moments I have seen in a long time, Omega looked liked he could of been seriously injured but the match continued.

Naito was able to beat Omega after a succession of his finishing Move the Destino and able to pick up the win.

Naturally I was disappointed to not see Omega Win and create more history however Omega left this match creating a legacy.

Naito won the Tournament, but the Tournament will be remembered for Several Match of the Year candidates and one name Kenny Omega.

WWE Royal Rumble 2013 Ziggler is Lucky Number 1 (or 2) Dolph Ziggler This Sunday 27th January 2013 WWE Royal Rumble will air. Generally One of the best WWE PPV's of the year. This year 30 Man Royal Rumble match has alot of intrigue built into it most people are of the opinion that John Cena will be winning this years event and then go on to face The Rock at Wrestlemania. However after seeing this past Monday's WWE raw WWE might have something else in mind.,.,, Royal Rumble 2013 A Beat the clock challenge took place on WWE Raw and the winner of this we were originally told could pick their number for the Royal Rumble Match. Dolph Ziggler Ends up winning the Beat The Clock challenge then when he is bragging about this Vicki Guerreo informs Ziggler that it is not a free choice of Royal Rumble Entry number instead it is a number chosen within a certain range Number one to Number two. Here's what WWE could do This I feel is the ideal opportunity fo

AEW All Elite Wrestling to Sky Sports in The UK?

AEW  All Elite Wrestling to Sky Sports in The UK?  All Elite Wrestling airs in the UK on ITV 4 on a Friday night and ITV Hub (Itv on demand service should be uploaded on a Thursday) ITV don't air AEW Dynamite live and a separate subscription has to be purchased via Fite.TV if fans wish to do this.  Initially things started off OK although @itvwrestling had difficulties getting Dynamite on ITV Hub on time (they promised Thursdays at 7pm) usually this was up on a Friday morning. However as the weeks went on the uploading to ITV hub did not get any better and as of this writing its as worse as it has ever been they don't upload the episodes consistently which is leaving many fans frustrated and ITV Wrestling haven't been communicating with fans. @ITV Wrestling haven't tweeted about AEW since Dec 5th - they haven't updated any of their graphics since Full Gear and ITV wrestling now seem totally disconnected from the fans and from my perspective th

Strike Wrestling Results Bournemouth May 20th 2018   Hello Wrestling fans! Welcome to the first ever Strike Wrestling Results blog!  I went to Bournemouth and took x2 trains and a bus to get there and it was well worth the effort. Before I get to the wrestling a bit about Bournemouth Bournemouth is a beautiful town it was a sunny hot day. I managed to go to the beach and see the pier and get a great view from Bournemouth on top of the cliffs, where there were also many of great restaurants and places to eat. Check out my on the road video on Strike Wrestling by clicking the video below! This was my first show at Strike Wrestling and Strike is an over 18’s show so I was expecting a different vibe, feel and presentation to family orientated wrestling that I have attended in the past. Strike wrestling is high paced, hard hitting, fast action but with a huge streak of entertainment, fun and having a great time.   From where I was
